Drink box, Milk Carton, Tetra-Pak recycling. 紙包飲品盒回收行動 – Monday, 22 February 2021, 9:15 PM
Juice boxes, milk cartons….These are known as tetra paks and can be difficult to recycle. To reduce our environmental impact, we will have a special blue bin just for collecting tetra paks.
The collected material will be sent to a ‘Mil Mill’ in Yuen Long, the first pulp mill and education that recycles beverage cartons. Each day, they process 20 tonnes of beverage cartons daily, and convert them into paper pulp for making cartons, picture book covers, and kitty litter too!
There will be two special blue boxes marked for the Tetra Pak collection; one located at the Primary Gate and one at Charles Kao Square.
Students and families are encouraged to make use of these boxes. Simply cut open the empty box, rinse, and students can bring them to school to drop them off.
To use the collection bin, please remember that your juice boxes or milk cartons should be:
*empty (finish your drink!)
*clean inside (cut the top or corner off and give it a quick wash
*cut open and flatten
*do not put straws or plastic caps (if it has one) into the tetra pak collection bin

Design Challenge – Sunday, 23 August 2020, 7:33 PM
Looking for creative and innovative folks!

Miss Lo is looking for ways to give another life to these items! These items have been collected over a period of time and if someone can think of a great way to re-use these items, that’ll be great! Of course, the better way is to consume less plastics…and I have made some changes such as buying soap in re-fillable packages instead of in another plastic bottle.
Ideas include cutting them up, gluing additional pieces together, changing the function of it (so a bottle doesn’t have to stay as a bottle) etc. If you have an idea, please write it in the comments section below. If you have found ways to re-use some of your own materials, you’re welcome to share those ideas too! Happy designing and inventing!
Hebe Hoi Kei CHENG – Tue, 25 Aug 2020, 3:30 PM: Maybe you can use the contact lenses cases to make a necklace or something???
Monica LO – Wed, 2 Sep 2020, 11:16 AM: That’s an interesting idea. Maybe I can paint them too. Hmmm…Let me think about it. Thanks for your suggestion!
Kan Kenneth 劉懃 LAU – Fri, 11 Sep 2020, 5:47 PM: @Hebe Hoi Kei 鄭凱騏 CHENG I agree. Also, why not cut the base out of the the bottles and create a smol desoration? Also, you can roll out the side of the bottles and create a simple painting holder or something. My ideas are bad ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Monica LO – Fri, 18 Sep 2020, 3:22 PM: All ideas are good! I just put up a new one about umbrella fabric. My umbrellas broke, so I recycled the metal parts. Now, what can we make out of the fabric?
Hebe Hoi Kei CHENG – Sat, 3 Oct 2020, 1:54 PM: Hmm… maybe make a fabric hat?
Monica LO – Sat, 3 Oct 2020, 6:57 PM: Oh dear, I just broke another umbrella! I must be more gentle! Fabric hat…maybe a rain hat!
2020-21 Welcome Back to School! – Sunday, 23 August 2020, 7:17 PM
Dear ISF Academy community!
Welcome to school year 2020-21! It’s a bit of an unusual start but will surely be one that will be interesting and memorable!
A few have already enquired about Bread Run, knitting projects and other community service events. While there will be some changes to the program, a number of well loved events will continue such as a the Box of Hope, Knitting Project, and the elderly appreciation tote bag design competition for Grades 4 – 6.
More information will be forthcoming on these events. Do stay tuned to this Blog for the sharing of information, photos and sign-up forms. To promote greater awareness of the school’s 8 Virtues + 1, and the good deeds happening, this space is also open for the sharing of you and your family’s personal community service activities and volunteer work. This could be donation drives you’ve taken part in, beach cleanups or other environmental initiatives you’re involved in…Any work you do that betters the lives of other people or the community as a whole.
Simply email a short write-up about your experience and include a photo or two and email it to Miss Monica Lo @ mlo@isf.edu.hk. Don’t forget to include your full name and homeroom.
Wishing you a wonderful year ahead!
Miss Lo
